# Kitchen renovation in Tenerife

> Kitchen renovation in Tenerife with one person in charge: strip-out, plumbing, electrics, wall and floor finishes and fitting, with a written quote.

A kitchen renovation involves taking out the old kitchen, adapting the plumbing and electrics, renewing floors and walls and fitting the new kitchen. We coordinate all of that work on a single schedule with one person in charge.

- **A single point of contact.** You do not have to coordinate the plumber, electrician, tiler and fitter yourself.
- **Work in the right order.** Each trade comes in at the right time, so nobody damages what someone else has just finished.
- **Services brought up to date.** We use the works to adapt service points, circuits and waste pipes to the new kitchen.
- **Itemised quote.** The building work and the kitchen are shown separately in the quote, so you can see what each part costs.

A kitchen renovation in Tenerife works when every trade follows the same plan. We design the new kitchen and coordinate the building work it needs: strip-out, plumbing, electrics, wall and floor finishes and final fitting. You deal with one person in charge and receive a written quote that separates the building work from the units.

## The stages of the work

A full renovation always follows the same order, because each job prepares the ground for the next.

1. **Strip-out.** We remove the units, worktop, appliances and, if necessary, the wall tiles and floor. The rubble goes to a licensed waste handler.
2. **Plumbing.** We move the water supply and waste to the position set by the design, for example if the sink moves to an island or to another wall.
3. **Electrics.** We adapt circuits and sockets to the new appliances. The induction hob and the oven need their own circuit with the right cable size, separate from the general-use sockets, which many older kitchens do not have.
4. **Wall and floor finishes.** Tiling, flooring and painting are finished before a single unit comes in.
5. **Fitting.** We install the units, worktop, sink, tap and appliances, and make the final connections.

If the project starts from scratch, the design is prepared like any [made-to-measure kitchen](https://cocinaentenerife.com/en/custom-kitchens/): measure-up, 3D render and a review of materials in the showroom. ## What usually turns up when the work starts in Tenerife

Each part of the island throws up different problems once the work begins. In older houses in the north, walls out of square, electrics with no earth and iron pipes are common. In flats in Santa Cruz and La Laguna, the shared soil stacks and the pillars dictate where the sink can go. On the coast, humidity and salt air mean the units under the sink and the hardware need a careful check.

Checking all of this during the initial visit avoids surprises during the work and means the quote matches what your kitchen really needs.

## When replacing the doors is enough

If the units are sound and the layout works for you, replacing the doors and fronts refreshes the kitchen without building work. It is a good option when the carcasses are holding up well, the drawers and hinges work and what bothers you is the colour or the wear on the doors. In that case it is worth looking at whether [replacement kitchen doors](https://cocinaentenerife.com/en/replacement-kitchen-doors/) and perhaps a new worktop would do the job.

It is not worth it when the carcasses are swollen from damp, when you want to change the layout or when the services need renewing. In those cases a full renovation works out better in the medium term.

## Permits before you start

Many kitchen renovations need a prior notification (comunicación previa) or a licence (licencia) from the town hall, depending on the scope of the work and the municipality. Replacing units without touching the services usually involves simpler paperwork than reorganising the kitchen or knocking down a partition wall. We explain it in the guide on the [kitchen renovation permit in Tenerife](https://cocinaentenerife.com/en/guides/kitchen-renovation-permit-tenerife/).

## Frequently asked questions

### Can I carry on living at home during the kitchen renovation?

Yes, in most cases. We seal off the work area to limit dust and let you know which days there will be no water or power in the kitchen. It helps to set up a temporary corner with a microwave and fridge for those days.

### What happens if a pipe in poor condition turns up during the strip-out?

We show it to you before carrying on and explain the options. If it needs replacing, it is quoted separately in writing and nothing is done without your go-ahead. In older homes it is worth checking the hidden pipework while the wall is open.

### Do I need to tell the community of owners?

It is advisable, especially if the work is noisy or the lift has to be used to bring up materials and take away rubble. Some communities set hours for building work and ask for shared areas to be protected, and we take that into account when planning.
